Elias L. Warrak was born in Tripoli, North Lebanon in 1965. He received his MD degree in 1990 from the American University of Beirut then he pursued further training in Ophthalmology where he joined the University of Texas, at Houston, to complete his subspecialty training in Corneal Transplant, Cataract, and Refractive Laser Surgery. After finishing his clinical studies, he joined the University of Baylor where he graduated as Certified Medical Director in Eye Banking.
Being one of the few certified eye doctors in eye banking, he was the founder and Medical Director of the National Eye Bank of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health since the year 2000.
Dr. Warrak held several academic and administrative positions.

He has many peer-reviewed publications in refereed journals, and he is a reviewer and an editorial board member of esteemed journals.
He is the recipient of prestigious awards from internationally renowned organizations and institutions such as the Joint Commission International Accreditation Award for Quality and Management, the Best Medical Practice Certificate Award, Socrates Award for Scientific Accomplishments, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Middle East African Council of Ophthalmology, Capital Finance International (CFI) Award for Outstanding Contribution to Healthcare in Lebanon and the Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, among others.
Dr. Warrak was elected President of the University of Balamand on September 28th, 2018.
